Although I harboured filmmaking aspirations since I first arrived in Pune in 2011, the opportunity to get my foot in the door of the filmmaking world came in the form of a major news incident at India’s premier film institute- the Film and Television Institute of India – in June 2015.
This networking and access opportunity paved the way for me to get some training in filmmaking through short courses on campus and getting actively involved in movie projects by students and alumni.
I started with writing and directing short films. I also worked some commercial projects.
An important project that came my way in 2019 was when I was approached to write and direct a series of documentaries about cancer survivors and how prosthetic technology could bring about change in their lives. One of the five documentaries -which shot over a period of a few years -is complete while others in post-production.
I am currently working on a feature project as screenwriter. The film is about a talented filmmaker in his twilight years who failed to repeat the success of his much-celebrated debut project. As his fame is rekindled with the advent of digital video-sharing platforms in the internet age, he plays to the gallery by playing ‘the eccentric master’ camouflaging his bitterness as artistic oddity, extracting his final revenge.
